AHA BLS Blended-Learning Skills Session
Are you scheduled for or have curiosities about the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Skills Session with Petrichor Training Solutions? Here are some helpful tips to prepare for skills sessions:
WHAT IS A SKILLS SESSION?
Participants who want to save time in a classroom (and have let their certification lapse) might be interested in the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support for the Provider (BLS) HeartCode (blended-learning) course. The BLS skills session is an opportunity to practice and test participant skills with a certified AHA instructor. The blended-learning course is a 2-part process:
Part 1 - eLearning and simulation on any internet-connected computer
Part 2 - In-person skills practice & testing
Participants who wish to attend a skills session with Petrichor Training Solutions may schedule a session at any time. Participants must complete Part 1 and send us an electronic copy of the certification of completion within 24 hours of the scheduled skills session as proof of completion. We will not travel to your location without this portion completed.
DURING THE SKILLS SESSION
Upon meeting with PTS, we will verify that participants have an overall understanding of the information from the online portion. To help with participant success during the skills session we recommend having an understanding of the skills we will be practicing. Participants can download a review guide here (coming soon).
Remember, during a skills session all participants will have ample time to practice before skills are tested. Participants who desire more practice on ANY of the topics or skills should let your instructor know.
SKILLS PRACTICE AND TESTING
The instructor will work with participants to make sure participants are confident and comfortable performing the following skills for Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED:
Chest compressions
Pocket-mask ventilations
Bag-mask ventilations (BVM)
Use of an AED (defibrillator)
Participants will have an opportunity to focus on all skill points before leading into a final “in-hospital” or “pre-hospital” scenario (dependent on workplace). Following the practice time participant skills will be tested by performing the full scenario without coaching or intervention from the instructor. Skills sessions and testing sessions will be repeated for adult, child and infant skills and scenarios.
